RACE CONDITIONS

  So what can you expect?
  • All courses are open to automobile traffic. Generally, long descents are on reasonably straight, well paved highways with shoulders.
  • Law enforcement and/or race personnel will be stationed at major turns and intersections.
  • Generally, the full width of the road will be used on County roads; right lane only on State highways.
  • For road races: a rolling enclosure will be provided for each group, i.e. on-comming traffic will be directed to pull over and stop while the race caravan passes. Riders who fall behind the caravan must ride single file as close to the right edge of the pavement as is practicable.
  • For each group, the race caravan will consist of:
    • Law enforcement vehicles front and back.
    • 2 or 3 motorcycle officials with radio contact to head referee.
    • Head referee with radio contact to medic vehicle.
    • Medical personnel with ability to call for ambulance or air-evac.
    • 2 neutral support vehicles with radio contact to head referee.
    • Sag wagon to follow last rider in group.
  • Road surfaces are mostly very good, but some sections are rough. Unusual road conditions will be identified in the Race Regulations.
  • All courses will be inspected the day before the race. Cattleguard section gaps will be covered. Large potholes will be filled. Fast corners will be swept.
  • The finish areas will be barricaded.
  • Weather conditions can be varied. Wind is usually moderate to strong. Temperatures may be as hot as 90 deg F. Riders are encouraged to carry two large water bottles in the road races. Feed zones will be provided for the road race stages.
  • Unforseen situations may occur that are beyond the control of the event organizer and USCF officials. Riders should use caution while participating in all stages.
